Getting There



Getting to Perlis, The Northern Gem, is fairly easy. There are a few ways to get here. You can either choose to get there by Air, by Bus, by Rail, by Ferry or by Road (if you choose to drive there yourself).

Getting There by Air



There are no direct flights to Perlis as there is no airport in this tiny state. In fact, there is no need for an airport in Perlis due to the close proximity of this state to the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Alor Star, Kedah. Kangar, the capital of Perlis is situated about 45 minutes from the airport.

The Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Alor Star receives daily flights from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and LCCT. So, if you want to get to Perlis, all you need to do is to fly to the airport in Alor Star, and from there, take a taxi or a bus from the airport to Perlis.



Getting There by Bus



If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur, there are a many bus operators serving the KL-Kangar route. Most of  buses depart Kuala Lumpur from both Hentian Duta and Hentian Putra stations. They both arrive Kangar at the Hentian Jalan Bukit Lagi station. The journey takes approximately 8 hours.



Getting There by Rail


Another alternative to get to Perlis from Kuala Lumpur is by rail. Rail services are provided by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).

The North-South railway line passes through Arau, the royal seat of Perlis. You can board the KTM train from KL Sentral in Kuala Lumpur and alight the train at Arau or Padang Besar Station. The journey takes approximately 12 hours 15 minutes. Once you reach the railway station, simply catch a taxi to get to your desired destination.



Getting There by Ferry


If you are coming from Langkawi Island, you could get to Perlis by Ferry. These ferries provide scheduled crossings between Kuala Perlis and Langkawi and the journey takes about an hour.

The fare varies from RM 12 - RM 15 per person depending on the ferry operators. There are four ferry operators serving the Kuah - Kuala Perlis route. They are "Kuala Perlis Langkawi Ferry Service Sdn. Bhd.", "Samavest Sdn. Bhd.", "LADA Holdings Sdn. Bhd." and "Water Tour Development Sdn. Bhd."

These ferries also provide scheduled crossings between Kuala Perlis and Satun, Thailand.

The operation hours of the ferry is from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.



Getting There by Road


If you're the type who enjoys driving, then you could choose to drive yourself to Perlis. Getting to Perlis from Kuala Lumpur is fairly easy.

From Kuala Lumpur, hit the North-South highway and keep on heading North. Along the way, you would be passing by exits such as Rawang, Tanjung Malim, Simpang Pulai, Kuala Kangsar, Bukit Merah, Bukit Tambun, Sungai Petani Selatan, Sungai Petani Utara, Gurun Alor Setar before reaching Changlun in Kedah. Take the Chuping/Padang Besar exit and from there, take the highway that leads to Kangar, the capital of Perlis.
